Listen Closely with Lotte Jeffs
June Craft Session, June 14th 9am PST live on Zoom (recording will be sent after)
Learn the art of the profile interview with award-winning writer, ex ELLE Magazine editor and novelist Lotte Jeffs (she/they). Lotte most recently interviewed Lady Gaga for a worldwide exclusive, they have also profiled Kristen Stewart, Lana Del Rey, Cynthia Nixon, Glenn Close and many more celebrities for magazines and newspapers. Lotte will talk about how she prepares for an interview, the importance of research and plotting a narrative through the flow of questions while maintaining an ability to flex and adapt or rethink in the moment.
As a ghost-writer, celebrity interviewer and psychotherapy student Lotte will share their tips for active listening and drawing out someone’s story, they will talk about how this skill can help hone characterisation in fiction and case studies in non-fiction. Dealing with difficult customers and social agility is a key skill, and Lotte will share some anecdotes from her best and worse celebrity interviews and what she learnt from these experiences.
Lotte will also guide participants through the process of building a story from an interview transcript, noticing through-lines and framing the piece. How do you decide what to leave in, and what to take out? Editing is the final challenge, but absolutely essential. This session is for writers of all levels, and particularly interesting for up-coming journalists, and writers of fiction or non fiction. Learning to listen, reserve judgement and reflect someone authentically are skills that are transferable to all aspects of life. Join us for this fun, interactive session.
