LOL/SOS: How to turn breaking news into poetry with Lyndsay Rush

$40.00

Saturday, December 5th @9am PST (live on Zoom and recorded)

Ope, the world is burning but that doesn’t mean your writing can’t be fire! In a workshop that promises to help you create work that’s much better than that opening sentence, Lyndsay Rush (also known as Mary Oliver’s Drunk Cousin) will lead attendees through her signature writing process of creating “headline poems”—poetry born directly from breaking news.

Leveraging improv principles + the art of “noticing,” this energizing workshop will result in a funny-yet-surprisingly-profound poem as well as a creative exercise you can return to again and again whenever you feel Writer’s Block’s cold breath on the back of your neck. Expand your portfolio, try your hand at comedy, and learn how to start seeing poems everywhere (and I mean EVERYWHERE). (A promise, not a threat.)

Lyndsay Rush is a comedy writer, creative agency founder, and the poet behind the Instagram sensation, @maryoliversdrunkcousin. Her debut book of poems, A BIT MUCH was an Instant USA Today Bestseller and her second collection, MICRODOSING HOPE, is out Spring 2027. Lyndsay’s writing has been featured in Reductress, McSweeney’s, New York Magazine, and The New York Times, to brag, err, name a few. Lyndsay spent most of her adult life freezing in Chicago, but currently swelters in Nashville with her husband and young son. You can follow her shenanigans on Instagram, Threads, and against her millennial will, TikTok. You can also browse her website for info on her book, events, and to purchase prints of her work.
