Let's Get Weird: Experimental Writing with Mac Crane
There are infinite ways of telling a story, and we can explore those possibilities. We will play, we will delight in our work, and we will push ourselves to get weird with it. In this class, we will focus on studying and writing experimental work that breaks boundaries, subverts (Western) literary conventions, and refuses genre.
Take this class if you:
-Love the weird and beautiful
-Are curious about alternative structures or ways of telling a story
-Are writing a book or story that doesn't use a conventional form
-Feel limited by conventional storytelling expectations
-Love to break the rules
-Want to learn how to approach innovative forms, styles, narratives, etc.
Mac Crane is a jock, sweatpants enthusiast, and the award-winning author of I Keep My Exoskeletons to Myself, a New York Times Editors' Choice, Indie Next pick, and winner of a LAMBDA Literary Award, A Sharp Endless Need, and Perverts. They have received fellowships from the Sewanee Writers' Conference, American Short Fiction, and Vermont Studio Center, and their short work has appeared in Literary Hub, The Sun, TriQuarterly, Prairie Schooner, Joyland, and elsewhere. Originally from Allentown, PA, they currently live in San Diego with their wife and two kids.
