An Intuitive Writing Retreat

Nicaragua is a special place to us. A country of emerald coasts where fishing villages and colonial towns take you back to simpler times. A place to connect to the elements of nature, let all your senses come alive and surrender to a slower pace of life.

What is intuitive writing? It’s writing from the heart, accessing the stories that are truly yours to tell and most importantly, writing from a place of deep knowing because after all, we are all already masters of our craft waiting to be set free.

The Location - El Transito, Nicaragua

El Transito, a fishing village of about 2,000 people, sits right on the coast between Managua and Leon. Its crescent moon-shaped bay leads way to consistent surfing and uncrowded beaches. Walking distance from the venue is a charming village that attracts travelers eager to catch a break from more crowded spots. It’s a tight knit community of locals and about 15 expat families. Also walking distance from the venue is the El Transito tide pools which become the perfect little salt water tubs to relax and read when the tide is low.

How We Spend Our Days

You will spend days in deep meditation, breathwork, and conscious movement to allow your inner knowledge to lead you to writing that really feels like you. Our workshops are designed to take you deeper, to ask real questions and confront our creative blockages. At the same time, we will lounge by the oceanfront pool, take long beach walks, read under shaded palapa roofs and enjoy the local culture. If you’re the adventurous type, surf lessons and horseback riding is available right outside our door.

Sample schedule (subject to change):

  • 7:30 am: Journaling, tea and meditation

  • 8 am: Yoga

  • 9:30 am: Breakfast by incredible chef Katie Hunt

  • 11:00 am: Intuitive Writing session

  • 2-5 pm Free time (open for activities, free writing, or exploring the area)

The Venue

A luxury beachfront hotel where you wake to the sound of palm trees swishing back and forth, the smell of ocean breeze permeating the air, waves breaking just a few meters away.

If it sounds idyllic, it’s because this place is a Nicaraguan oasis. A rustic, refurbished palapa featuring blue and white textiles serves as centerpiece to rooms spread out among the gardens, tall cactus plants leading way to the pool and private beach. Outdoor showers with volcanic rock walls and custom beachwood furniture create the perfect balance of elements, ideal for surrendering to the change of the tides and connecting to your creativity.

FAQs - The Little Things You Want To Know

What airport do I fly into?

You will fly into the Managua International Airport (MGA), which is located about an hour away from the venue. Currently, Avianca and American Airlines have the best flight options. Once in Managua, you can take a taxi to El Transito or we can arrange group transportation.

Can I come if I have no writing experience?

Absolutely. The retreat is designed to ignite your creative potential, whether you have experience writing or not. Workshops are all levels.

What are expenses like in Nicaragua?

Like in many destinations, costs for meals, taxis and shopping vary depending on location. We encourage setting aside spending money for such expenses, the occasional beach lunch and other activities. Though El Transito is a quiet town, you will need cash if you would like to go outside of the venue for a coffee or a surf lesson.

Do I need to be vaccinated against COVID-19?

We encourage all retreat attendees to be vaccinated, however, a PCR test will be accepted if taken within 48 hours of the retreat start. Nicaragua requires all travelers to be PCR tested and we will require you to show test results to enter the venue.

Do I need a visa to visit Nicaragua?

US citizens do not need a visa to visit Nicaragua. However, your passport must be valid for at least six months after your planned departure date. If you are not a US citizen please consult with the consulate of your country.

If I am traveling alone can I still share a room with someone?

Yes. If you are traveling on your own and would prefer to share a room, we will do our best to match you with a roommate.
